What struck Moira about first seeing America was the palm trees. She had never seen them in Scotland, where she lived for a very long time. She immigrated from Scotland in 1980. She came because her family did. Her sister came to America before she did.

Moira traveled to America on a plane, which was very modern and comfortable. She remembered her school in Scotland as very strict. For fun in Scotland, Moira played outside a lot. She said that while most people think Scotland is very different from America, it's really quite similar.
