The day Mrs. G came to America was her 14th birthday. The chefs on the ships gave her 10 dollars, and she thought that she was the richest person in the world.

She came to America in 1948 because her dad was offered a job in Colorado. When she was in Germany she was in first grade, and here she was in seventh grade. The class was having a math test and she was almost done when her teacher came up to her and told her that she was doing it wrong. Where she came from, division was written out like this: 3 divided into 8765, and here it is 8765 divided by 3. So she thought that she had to divide 8765 into 3. That is what happened to Mrs. G.
