When Rosa crossed the border into the U.S. illegally at age 21 she had only her Bible and 300 dollars. She had left her mother, sisters, brothers and friends behind in El Salvador because her sister (who was already here) needed help with 2 babies.

In El Salvador she had a job as an accountant for a bus company, but the guerrillas in the civil war tried to force her to write illegal checks. When she refused they threatened to hurt her and burn the buses. She was amazed at the big buildings and beautiful landscape she saw here.

When she arrived she had a job as a nanny with a woman whose son was able to help her start getting her citizenship. Now that she is a citizen she can travel to her country.
