Joe was amazed when he came to America because he asked a woman for a glass of water. She came back and gave him a glass of water from a faucet and in Hong Kong you must boil water from the faucet because the water isn't that clean.

He came to America in 1963 by ship. His room on the ship was 7 ft. by 7 ft. Joe came to America because there were better opportunities, like more colleges. It took 20 days to get to America. His first impression of America was ''very big and not as crowded as Hong Kong.'' On the journey to America he brought things like, photo albums and 5 suitcases. For fun (in his native country) Joe and his friends played kick the can and threw pebbles.
