When Vera left Russia in 1981 to come to America, the Russian government did not allow her to bring anything with her. She couldn't even bring pictures, but that wasn't fully true because she brought some anyway, and they weren't discovered. She came to America because she fell in love with someone who was going to move here, so she did too. The first impression she got of America was like a new planet. ''It was wonderful! I thought it was like a new planet!'' she said. She loved being a pediatrician in Russia, and also loves being one here.

She loves America.
