I was five years old when I came to America. We came from Canada because my father was a salesman and got a good job in America. We all came to America in 1923 to get a good living.

We took a train for three days and three nights. It was very long, hard journey to America but we made the long, hard journey. We had to sign papers and pay a tax to go to a new home in Northern Minnesota. Then 20 years later there was World War II. Once in the war a Japanese soldier snuck on my boat and almost killed me! But another American shot him. So the Japanese man died and I survived. When the war ended I got back to my home in Northern Minnesota.
