In 1926, my great-grandmother Rose M. came to America from Poland, when she was in her late 20's. She came because she heard that America was a better place to live, and that's what she wanted. She came on a boat to America and she went through Ellis Island. When she was in America she met my great-grandfather, Paul. They got married and had 5 girls, but my great-grandfather wanted a boy.

They lived in an apartment building, and my great-grandmother worked at cleaning houses for her occupation because she did not speak good English. Then when my grandmother was 9, they moved to Yonkers and lived in a house.
