Zena S. was born in Poland, then she was sent to a concentration camp. After World War II, she was sent to a displaced persons camp. Then she traevled to Canada on a boat named General Sturges. The boat had no rooms, just a big open space. The boat was used to send American troops to Europe.

She came to Canada at age 21. She said, ''It was not hard to adjust to a strange language and strange country.'' Zena said, ''The food markets were not like they are now. I would go to a market where they spoke Yiddish or I would go and just point to what I wanted.''
