The story is about the Battle of Gettysburg that was fought between the Union and the Confederacy during the Civil War. It takes place in the town of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. The battle started on the 29th of June, 1863 and ended on the 3rd of July, 1863.
The main character of the book is the general of the Confederate Army, General Robert E. Lee. Lee can be best described as a man who is confident, calm, honest, religious, and sometimes stubborn.
Some of the other characters that are related to Robert E. Lee are General Longstreet, General Ewell, and General Meade.
- Longstreet is the second in command of Lee and he is in command of the 1st division of the Confederate Army. On the third day of the battle, Longstreet advised Lee to move his army south of Washington in order to get a good defensive position. Since Lee and his army had won many battles before, Lee was very confident and didn't take Longstreet's advice.
- Ewell is in command of the 2nd division of the Confederate Army. This is his first time in this rank. Without taking into consideration that Ewell was new to this kind of command, Lee ordered Ewell to take two hills, (Cemetery Hill and Culp's Hill).
