Durnig WWII my grandfather, who was only a little boy, was living in poland when it was invaded. his family and him were taken to Russia to do manual labor on farms. They lived in a primitave hut with no furnature, besides a few wooden scraps they found. He spent his time playing with the polish boys but was frobidden to play with the Russians. This rule was so strict that one Russian huug his dog because it liked to play with the polish prisoners! However his grandmother had lived through WWI and had the insight to hide some gold coins in her coat when they left. With these and some deep bribes they escaped from Russia and eventually settled in Kingston, Canada! They never returned to their home until the summer of 2004!
