Nominee
Benjamin O. Davis, Sr.

by Ryan G.
Grade 7, Pennsylvania, 2/16/1999

I nominate Benjamin Davis Sr. to the Trailblazer Honor Roll because he was the first black man to be on a United States postage stamp. He was honored on the stamp because of his fifty years of service to his country. He was a three star general in the army. He received the Distinguished Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the French Croix de Guerre, and the Grade of Commander of the Order of the Star of Africa, Liberian government. Davis is a trailblazer for his race because he was the first black man to become a brigadier general and he was a driving force in the integration of the U.S. armed forces.
