Grade 7, Tennessee, 3/4/1999
Ruby Bridges is one of the most memorable trailblazers because she was the first African-American to enter an all white elementary
school. First, she did not give up on going to a segregated school
even though all of the kids were not at the school for several days
because of her. Her self-esteem remained high even after practically every white person was against her. Also, Ruby was very courageous for her age. Many people only dream about doing a brave act like the one Ruby did. Today, Ruby is very concerned about the quality of education of all children, white or black. She believes that teaching is not only limited to classrooms, but in the home, garage, and even the street corner. Because she is brave and very courageous, Ruby Bridges should be on the Trailblazer Honor Roll.
