Amelia Earhart Transatlantic Flight
By: Xander B.
Australia, Age 9

5/20/1932

Today, Amelia Earhart has become the first woman to make a solo transatlantic flight. She took off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. It was her plan to fly to Paris, France, but she landed 14 hours and 56 minutes later in a field in Culmore, Northern Ireland. Amelia made this flight in a Lockheed Vega 5B. She was trying to copy Charles Lindbergh’s solo flight that he had made 5 years earlier.. Strong north winds, icy conditions & mechanical problems forced her to land sooner than she planned.
