Amelia Earhart wanted to go around the world. She wanted to be the first woman to go around the world. On July 2, 1937 the plane took off from California to fly to Miami, South America, Africa, India, and finally New Guinea. When Amelia was just about to finish her flight around the world the radio stopped working and Amelia almost ran out of gas. She and her navigator wanted to land on an island called the Howland Island. They became lost and Amelia was never seen again! About 20 years later some people found a lighter from the early 1930's and part of a size nine shoe.(Amelia wore a size nine shoe.) all of the things that were found were on a desert island not far from Howland.
