Captured By The Japanese?
By: Madeline D.
Illinois, Age 12

In 1937 the western Pacific had groups of small islands like Marshalls, the Carolines and the Marinas. At the time these were owned by the Japanese. It is said that when Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan were flying over they were shot down and either killed or taken prisoner. The Japanese refused to let the Americans search the island. The American marines refused to go and look for themselves in fear of starting a war.
