Amelia Earhart: Vanished
By: Peyton M.
Mississippi, Age 13

8/28/1937

Amelia Earhart was one of the greatest American pilots to ever live, and she was definitely the best female pilot. She was the first woman to ever fly over the Atlantic Ocean solo. She joined the Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. She also joined Purdue University aviation department in 1935 to inspire others with her love for aviation. She was also a member of the National Woman's Party and an early supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment. During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937 in a Purdue-funded Lockheed L-10 Electra, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. She is gone but not forgotten and is still known as the greatest female pilot to ever live.
