Support Family Literacy and Help the School
Reading Jamboree is a magazine fundraising program held as part of a Scholastic Book Fair. Schools receive part of every dollar generated. It's a wonderful way to promote reading in the home while helping schools earn extra money for books, computers, classroom supplies, field trips and more. Ask your school's Book Fairs Chairperson for details!

Simple and Fun
To participate in Reading Jamboree, students and their parents complete seven postcards with the names and addresses of unique, legitimate adult family members and friends. Scholastic then sends these people a one-time offer to purchase popular magazines and books at super savings up to 85% off cover prices! These postcards are only used for a one-time mailing and do not become part of a mailing list.

Exciting Offer Especially for Teachers
Teachers with 30% or higher classroom participation receive a FREE magazine subscription from among those featured on the Chairperson/Teacher Gift Offer Flyer (flyers are distributed by the Book Fairs Chairperson).

Easy Steps to Classroom Success
Teachers have an important role in helping make Reading Jamboree a big success! Here are some ideas to make the program extra easy and lots of fun in every classroom!

1. Receive these materials from your Chairperson about a week before your Book Fair begins:
• Classroom Door Poster
Parent Letters
• Student Booklets
2. Use this Teacher Announcement Script (PDF)to assist you in telling students about the program.
3. Hang up the poster and give each student a letter and a booklet to take home and complete with their parents.
4. Tell students about the fun prize they will receive for returning their completed booklet to you or to the Book Fair.
5. Remind students each day to return their booklets and congratulate them for doing so by writing their names on the poster. To promote friendly competition, challenge other classes to have the highest percentage of students who participate. For extra recognition, download these Fun Awards (PDF) or instead Create Your Own Fun Awards (PDF). You can also download and fill out a special WOW Certificate (PDF) for each participating student to hang on your classroom wall!

Special Preorder Promotion
Schools holding Reading Jamborees in certain areas will also sell magazine subscriptions as part of their Jamboree (known as "preorders"). Talk with your Book Fair Chairperson to understand whether your school is participating in this special promotion.

If your school is participating in the Preorder Promotion, you will want to use the customized Parent Letter (PDF) and Teacher Announcement Script (PDF). You will also want to remember to pass out a Magazine Flyer to each student, along with a Parent Letter and Student Booklet (your Book Fairs Chairperson will receive the Magazine Flyers with the Reading Jamboree Planning Kit).
