Charting the Hits
Looking for fun ways to get your students excited about real-world math? The Internet is bursting with sites that rank the top-selling and -playing records both new and old!
Start your expedition at Billboard Charts. You'll find
a complete list of the current best-selling albums in the U.S., as well
as downloadable sound clips from some of the chart-toppers. Another interesting
site is Charts all over the World,
an Internet charts network that includes links to personal music charts
around the Web. Both Billboard and HitsWorld provide data sets ideal for
math problem solving.
The perfect last stop on your trip is the Wall of Sound SoundScan Charts. You have the option to check out the charts nationwide, by region, and by record label. This site also contains informative album reviews and biographies of your kids' (and your own!) favorite rock 'n rollers.
