Bright Ideas for Your Class Homepage

Tips from Teachers

Time Savers
Submitted by: Melissa Haile, Yuma, AZ
“Finding the time to update your homepage can be hard. However, when you create messages in homework, links, books, etc..., try to make them in a generic format so that the updating process allows you to only change a few words. Don't delete the information when you update, save it instead! Then if you need it again during the school year or for the following year, it is saved for you to just add it back to your class homepage.”
Homepage Reminder
Submitted by: Teresa E. Andriella, Pembrooke Pines, FL
“I now include my homepage URL in the footer on my template that I use for my weekly homework log that goes home each Monday as well as on the template for my monthly classroom newsletter. I have found that this helps remind parents to return to the site.”

Check out the message board for help and tips on how to set up your Class Homepage.

KEEP PARENTS AND STUDENTS COMING BACK
  • Keep the reading and learning going over the next few months. Link your page to Scholastic's Summer Reading Buzz for fun contests, games, read meters, and more.
  • Have some fun with making acrostic poems!
  • Throw a Cinco de Mayo party. Ask your student to bring different ingredients and cook an authentic Mexican lunch. Click here to learn how.

Ready to Post Content

Recycle and Reuse your Homepage for Next Year!

Save yourself some time next year and reuse this year's Homepage. It'll take a few minutes and you'll be ready with a new page next school year.

Step 1: Go to any of your posted items that you will not be using in your class next fall.

Step 2: Click the "Edit" button.

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the last choice that says "Save but don't post it on the Class Homepage."

Now all of your spring items will be saved here for next year. When the time comes, you'll just need to click "Save and post it now."

Also, you may want to change your class username and password. That can be done on your Summary page, under Management Tools on the right-hand side.
