Is censorship necessary?

Analyze the Survey Results

How do kids across the country feel about censorship? A majority of kids who answered our poll said they didn't think censorship helped protect them from inappropriate material in the movies, TV, on the Web, and in magazines. But how did kids in various parts of the country vote? And did girls feel differently from boys? Check out the survey results to find out!

We asked you to tell us

  • if you think censorship help protects kids from inappropriate material;
  • what some good reasons for censorship might be;
  • and who, if anyone, should decide what is appropriate or inappropriate for kids to see.
Find out how Scholastic kids voted, then test your math skills. Check out these charts and questions:

* Does censorship protect kids? (Results by region)
* Does censorship protect kids? (Results by gender)
* Good reasons for censorship (Results by region)
* Who should decide? (Results by grade level)

Did you miss the chance to vote online? You can still print out the censorship survey ballot. Conduct the poll in your class or school, then compare your results with the nationwide vote.
