  Lesson 2: The Importance of Editing

Time Required:
40 minutes

Materials:
Edit Your Essay student worksheet #3 (PDF), pen

Directions:
1. Visit the British Library to download the original manuscript copy of William Blake's poem "The Tyger."

2. Distribute the poem to students and discuss the importance of editing by reviewing how Blake modified his own work.

3. Discuss how Blake's revisions dramatically affect the final version. Ask students if they think the edits are beneficial. Why or why not?

4. Distribute Edit Your Essay student worksheet #3 (PDF) and have students complete it.

5. Review together.
