Adding Lily Pad Points

Materials: reproducible pages (PDF), oaktag, glue, crayons, scissors

This activity can be geared to your students' math level in a variety of ways. The simplest game is on the first reproducible page: Adding Lily Pad Points (Frogs). All students need to do is glue the frog pictures to a piece of oaktag, color them, and then write their name in the space provided. Then they should cut out the frogs to use as playing pieces. Next, cut out the lily pads and place them randomly on a desk or table top. Have students take turns tossing their frog pieces onto the lily pads. Once all three pieces have been thrown, students add their lily pad points. The student with the most points wins. You can make the game more complex by having the students add their first two landings and subtract the third, and so forth.
