Life in the Rain Forest:
Four Worlds in One
Activity: The class learns about the four
different layers of the rain forest: the emergent
layer, the canopy, the understory, and the forest
floor. Students will see how each rainforest
layer is a unique habitat for different plants
and animals.
- Explain that the rain forest is made up of
several layers.
- Explore the two sites below to learn about
the climate, plants, and animals of the
different layers of the rain forest.
- Have students create a bulletin board mural
of the rain forest showing the different
layers. For each layer, write important facts,
such as the plants and animals found there,
on a piece of paper. Connect each paper to
the correct layer of the rain forest with a
colorful ribbon.
