CyberHunt from the Editors of Instructor

DIRECTIONS Learn about the first Thanksgiving and the native Americans who made it possible. Click on the link below each question to find the answer. Then write your answers on a separate piece of paper, or on the reproducible provided by your teacher.

1

How did the English-speaking Native American Tisquantum (or Squanto) help the Pilgrims? (HINT: Scroll down to the bottom of the page.)

2   Name four foods that might have been on the menu at the first Thanksgiving, and four foods that were definitely not on the menu in 1621. (HINT: Scroll down to the bottom of the page.)

  5

One of the foods the Native Americans introduced to the Pilgrims was Indian corn. Corn wasn't just used for food. Name four things that could be made with corn.

3   Was the “first Thanksgiving” like the modern holiday Americans now celebrate?

  6

Most of the pictures we see of Pilgrims show them wearing only black and white. Is that all they wore?

4   What Indian tribe first met the Pilgrims and showed them how to survive in the New World? What kind of houses did they live in?

  7

Listen to Pilgrim Myles Standish talk about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians. Were they friendly or unfriendly? (If the sound doesn't work, click here.)
