GRADUATE CREDIT FOR SCHOLASTIC U PROFESSIONAL DEVELOMENT COURSES

Collaboration between Scholastic U and Brandman University (accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges) allows educators to register to receive graduate elective credit from Brandman University. Credit hours per course are listed on the table below. Brandman's main campus is located in Orange County, California, with many branches throughout California and Washington. Credits may be transferred to a degree program but participants should first consult with the degree-granting organization for this permission. Credits are generally used for teacher certification and/or salary enhancement purposes.

Effective professional development requires that teachers reflect on their learning and refine their teaching based on that reflection. Teachers enrolled in Scholastic U courses study and apply the research-based components of effective reading instruction and reading strategies. Over a period of several weeks, teachers implement and refine these strategies as they work towards transforming their online coursework into classroom practice.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR 2- AND 3-CREDIT COURSES
Scholastic U offers several online professional development courses for two or three graduate elective units of credit in collaboration with Brandman University. Participants can earn either two or three graduate units of credit, depending on the course. Brandman University expects participants to invest 15 hours for each credit earned by studying, testing, reflecting, and implementing ideas in the lessons. With this in mind, we anticipate it would require a minimum of five weeks of study and participation to complete each course.

Participants applying for graduate elective credit for Scholastic U courses must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Participate in all required online sessions (no writing assignments are required).
  • Upon completion of the Scholastic U course, send a copy of your Scholastic U Course Record to Brandman University.
  • Scholastic U participants will be allowed to enroll in and earn graduate elective credit for only two Scholastic U courses per semester/quarter (corresponding to university Fall (September-December), Winter/Spring (January-May), and Summer (June-August) semesters/quarters).
  • Each Scholastic U course earning 2- or 3- graduate elective units of credit must be completed in no less than five weeks and no more than 15 weeks.
  • Participants must register for graduate credit within 10 days of enrolling in their Scholastic U course.

To send a copy of your Scholastic U Course Record, go to www.scholasticU.com and log in using your username and password. From the Scholastic U home page, click the My Scholastic U tab and select Reports from the pull-down menu. Click Send (in the Email Course Record column) for the Course Record you would like to send.

Type this email address in the “To” field on the form: thassociates@cox.net.  Once you have completed the form, click the Send Email button.

Your score on the Course Review (the end-of-course assessment) will determine your final grade. If the final exam is failed, no credit will be granted.
