GRADUATE CREDIT FOR SCHOLASTIC U PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES

Collaboration between Scholastic U and the University of San Diego (accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges) allows educators to register to receive graduate credit from the University of San Diego. Credit hours per course are listed on the table below. Credits may be transferred to a degree program but participants should first consult with the degree-granting organization for this permission. Credits are generally used for teacher certification and/or salary enhancement purposes.

Effective professional development requires that teachers reflect on their learning and refine their teaching based on that reflection. Teachers enrolled in Scholastic U courses study and apply the research-based components of effective reading instruction and reading strategies. Over a period of several weeks, teachers implement and refine these strategies as they work towards transforming their online coursework into classroom practice.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR 2- AND 3-CREDIT COURSES
Scholastic U offers several online professional development courses for two or three graduate units of credit in collaboration with the University of San Diego. Participants can earn either two or three graduate units of credit, depending on the course. USD expects participants to invest 12.5 hours for each credit earned by studying, testing, reflecting, and implementing ideas in the lessons. With this in mind, we anticipate it would require a minimum of five weeks of study and participation to complete each course.

Participants applying for graduate credit for Scholastic U courses must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Participate in all required online sessions (no writing assignments are required).
  • Upon completion of the Scholastic U course, send a copy of your Scholastic U Course Record to the University of San Diego.
  • Each Scholastic U course earning 2- or 3- graduate units of credit must be completed in no less than five weeks and no more than 15 weeks.
  • Participants must register for graduate credit within 10 days of enrolling in their Scholastic U course.

To send a copy of your Scholastic U Course Record, go to www.scholasticU.com and log in using your username and password. From the Scholastic U home page, click the My Scholastic U tab and select Reports from the pull-down menu. Click the Course Record link on the upper left side of the page to view a list of courses you have completed. Click Send (in the Email Course Record column) for the Course Record you would like to send.

Type this email address in the “To” field on the form: Marilyngreen@sandiego.edu.  Once you have completed the form, click the Send Email button.

Your score on the Course Review (the end-of-course assessment) will determine your final grade. If the final exam is failed, no credit will be granted.

The grading criteria for courses worth 2- or 3- units of graduate credit are:

A 18-20
B 16-17
C 14-15
D 12-13
F 11 and below

Upon completion of each course a cumulative transcript listing all courses completed with the University of San Diego is provided automatically at no charge. Additional transcripts can be requested online for a $15.00 fee. USD's policy is to release transcripts within 48 hours of receiving a score from Scholastic U, but in no case will the transcript be released before the five-week restriction has elapsed.
