The Desktop Clock application will work on Windows 98 and later versions. (This download requires WinZip® software to open the file. Click here to download the WinZip evaluation version from the WinZip web site)
Click the button to download the Zip archive containing the Windows version of the Desktop Clock application to your desired directory.
After downloading, go to the directory where you downloaded the archive. Double-click on the downloaded file ("scholastic-clock.zip") to open the archive. (On some systems, the file will automatically appear on the desktop as “scholastic-clock_setup.”)
Next, double click on the Desktop Clock file ("scholastic-clock_setup.exe or scholastic-clock_setup"). A dialog box will open. Click the button that reads "Install." Then follow the steps for the installation.
If Your Desktop Clock Does Not Display, Follow These Steps:
Go to the Start menu. Select "Settings" and then "Control Panel."
In the Control Panel window, double-click "Display." The "Display Properties" window will open.
On the tabs at the top of the "Display Properties" window, select "Background." (On Windows XP, select “Desktop”)
On the "Background" pulldown list, select "Scholastic Classroom Books" and click OK.
To Turn On Clock Interactivity:
You will need to click on the clock first in order to enable its interactive features.
To Change Wallpaper or Uninstall the Desktop Clock on a PC:
To change wallpaper, follow the instructions above to open the Control Panel and deselect "Scholastic Classroom Books"
To uninstall the program, go to your computer's control panel, then to “Add or Remove Programs” and select “Scholastic Classroom Books Wallpaper.”
Note: Dialog Box Alert When Connecting to Internet
With Flash Player versions 8 and later, a dialog box may appear when the Clock tries to connect to the Classroom Books website. At your discretion, you can change your Flash Global Security Settings to allow the connection. View the Adobe Flash Player TechNote to learn more.
The Desktop Clock application will work on MAC OS X. (This download requires the latest version of StuffIt Expander, available for free download.)
Click the button to download the Macintosh version of the Desktop Clock wallpaper. The download will appear in a directory of your choice.
Go to that directory and double-click on the file “scholastic-clock.sit” to create a new file called “scholastic-clock”. (On some systems this step will happen automatically.)
Open “scholastic-clock” and the Desktop Clock application will install. Click OK.
A Screentime icon will appear on the upper right hand corner of your desktop. Select “Make wallpaper interactive” so you can use the clock on the wallpaper and connect to Scholastic’s Classroom Books website.
To View Your Icons:
Click on the Screentime icon again and select “Show Desktop Icons.” (Note: When icons are shown, clock interactivity will not function.) Choose “Make Wallpaper Interactive” from the Screentime menu to switch to the interactive clock.
To Quit or Uninstall the Desktop Clock on a Mac:
To quit the interactive desktop, click the Screentime icon on the upper right hand corner of the desktop and select “Quit SWF Desktop.”
To uninstall the interactive desktop, click the Screentime icon on the upper right hand corner of the desktop and select “Preferences.”
Select “Delete selected desktop.”
Deselect “Start SWF Desktop at Login” and close pop-up window.
