About Scholastic Triple Treat

By presenting a trio of similar texts, Triple Treat allows your youngest readers and writers to become familiar with the alphabet, print features, vocabulary, and language patterns so that they can develop reading and writing confidence and fluency. Triple Treat provides the support and familiarity to allow students to experience success—and enjoyment—as they learn to read.

1. Teaching Planner

The Teaching Planner (8 pages):

  • Provides strategies for shared, whole class, and guided reading
  • Ideas for multiple readings and assessment strategies
  • Provides a focus on oral language and writing activities
  • “Responding Through the Arts” section incorporates Art, Drama, Music, and Craft activities
  • Lists Related Literature

1 Big Book to introduce the concept and patterns

1 DVD with the Big Book in digital format for whiteboard or PC

4. Small Book Trio

Small Book Trios consists of 6 copies each of 3 titles

  • 3 texts share familiar elements: vocabulary, text placement, format, layout, language pattern, repetition, storyline, and illustration
  • characters, setting, and concept are also familiar
  • all written at the same level of difficulty

5. Audio CD

1 Audio CD with all three books read aloud

6. Writing Book

  • For independent writing
  • Alphabet is ranged across the base of each double-page spread for easy reference
  • Includes an illustrated word list with words drawn from the trio

How does Triple Treat help students become more confident
readers?

By using familiar texts and common themes, students become more comfortable with reading on their own. Each concept is introduced by the teacher using Big Books, and students proceed to reading small books on their own or in a small group.

How does Triple Treat help students develop writing skills?

Each Triple Treat Trio comes with Writing Books that remind students about the concepts they covered in their readings. They are able to write their own story, keeping with the theme of the trio. Word lists are provided in each Writing Book to help guide students.
