Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud.

Reach Out and Read builds on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers to develop critical early reading skills in children, beginning at 6 months of age. The more than 3.9 million families served annually by Reach Out and Read read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten better prepared to succeed, with larger vocabularies, stronger language skills, and a six-month developmental edge over their peers

Volunteer USA

The mission of Volunteer USA Foundation is to inspire a spirit of volunteerism to make our communities stronger.

Founded in 2007, Volunteer USA may be considered a “young” foundation, but our experience in working in the nonprofit and volunteer arena is lengthy and far-reaching. In fact, Volunteer USA has been named a prestigious winner in the 2009 Great Nonprofits Youth Thrive Award- as one of the best nonprofits in the South serving youth.

From supporting family literacy, youth mentoring and parenting programs to recruiting “green” volunteers to help preserve our pristine parks and providing training to teens so they can help their neighbors and communities in times of disaster – our passion is to improve the lives and futures of families, for generations to come.

National CARES Mentoring Movement

The national cares mentoring movement was founded in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, as Essence CARES. Through the creation of local CARES Mentor-Recruitment Circles, a collaborative, supportive network of volunteers who work with unbounded love. The organization steers dozens of communities nationwide. These dedicated lead-ers COLLECT willing and able Black men and women, CONNECT with them to inspire and often train them, then DIRECT these adults to local mentoring programs and in some cities to the group-mentoring, academic-en-richment pilots we are building with our partners.

The Eagle Academy Foundation

The Eagle Academy Foundation empowers at-risk inner city young men to become academic achievers, engaged citizens, and responsible men by providing quality education resources and proven effective community-based initiatives to address the shortfalls in public education to effectively educate them.
