In observance of Earth Day on April 22, Grolier Online is reintroducing the feature showcase, Global Warming and Climate Change, to teach about environmental issues and urge students and patrons to take responsibility for climate change. The feature showcase is filled with videos, articles, an interactive timeline, quiz, and more.
| • |
Begin the lesson with the 2 minute anchor video to introduce the topic and key vocabulary.
|
| • |
Ask researchers to form an opinion on global warming and its effect on your local climate using the content in "What's Going On," which features interactive articles that highlight different environment problems like the Greenhouse effect and ozone Depletion. Pose critical thinking questions such as: Which kind of human activities related to the environment concern them most? What is their role in improving our environmental issues?
|
| • |
Organize a group project assigning your students or patrons to different climates or extreme weather effects profiled in the "In a Warming World" section. Have them each create a diorama or poster with key statistics or insightful facts on the devastating climate change.
|
| • |
As a group, create a GO Green campaign for your school or library. Use the "Finding Solutions" articles and Scholastic Act Green website for inspiration.
|
For additional lesson plans and activities about Global Warming, utilize the Teacher Materials provided in the Feature Showcase, which lists writing assignments, research projects, discussion questions, and creative activities you can use with your students or patrons.
