Powerful Vocabulary for Reading Success is a program geared towards Grades 3-6. For each grade level, there is a Student Edition workbook, and a Teacher’s Edition to supplement. Each Student Edition has four chapters (outlined below and in the following site pages). In these chapters, students address and learn key meanings of words and their importance in language. Each chapter stresses a different aspect of word learning, resulting in the students learning to tackle a word’s meaning in many different and successful ways.

Chapter 1:
Context Clues		 Standards Connection
Students use syntax and context clues to determine the meaning fo unfamiliar words.
Chapter 2:
Words & Their Parts		 Standards Connection
Students use knowledge of word parts (prefixes, suffixes, roots, compound words, related words) to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.
Chapter 3:

Students determine the meaning of content words.
Chapter 4:
Words & Their Histories		 Standards Connection
Students use knowledge of word origins and derivatives to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words. Students determine the meaning of homo-phones and commonly confused words. Students determine the meaning of figurative language and idioms.
