Scholastic congratulates the nine student winners of the 5th annual READ 180 All-Star Awards! The nine winners were selected from more than 300 nominees across the United States. The 2008 READ 180 All-Star Winners are:

2008 READ 180 Outstanding Educator!
Congratulations to Donna Pappas of Temperance-Kutner Elementary School in Fresno, California, winner of the 2008 READ 180 Outstanding Educator Award! Donna was selected from more than 40 exceptional nominees across the United States. Donna will be recognized for this award at the READ 180 National Summer Institute in July and receive $2,000 in recognition of her exceptional commitment to teaching READ 180. Council of Administrators of Special Education endorses READ 180 for use as reading intervention with special education students.
The Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE) announced the formal endorsement of READ 180 for use with Special Education students. "READ 180 is a unique and impressive reading intervention program that CASE believes will be highly beneficial to our members," said Dr. Luann Purcell, Executive Director of CASE.

The Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) and The Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University have released the preliminary findings of the most rigorous randomized research study on effective reading intervention for underachieving high-school students. The results indicate that students placed in the READ 180 program outperformed their peers in other reading intervention programs and a control group.
