Text Dependent Questions & Tasks

Instruction in READ 180 focuses on close reading of text and gathering evidence at the word, phrase, sentence, and text levels. Questions and short tasks are all in service of deep reading of texts that are then used as sources for speaking and writing assignments.

  • Small-Group Instruction: rBook

Embedded throughout the rBook are questions that ask students to draw directly from the text and apply progressively more rigorous comprehension skills as well as Higher Order Thinking skills such as synthesis, analysis, and evaluation.

    React & Write Questions

React & Write Questions for each reading in the rBook promote critical thinking, writing, speaking and listening as students respond to issue-based questions.

  • Modeled & Independent Reading: Scholastic Reading Counts! (SRC!) Quizzes

Scholastic Reading Counts! (SRC!) is an independent reading assessment administered online after every Paperback & eBook title, Audiobook, and eRead that monitors students’ comprehension and assesses independent reading of increasingly complex text.

    QuickWrites

QuickWrites are provided for each of the Paperback & eBook Library titles, Audiobooks, and eReads and call on students to write routinely in response to text.

  • Assessment: rSkills College & Career

rSkills College & Career are curriculum-based assessments aligned to instruction in the rBook. These new rSkills Tests will provide students with authentic practice using new Next Generation item types, which build within students an evidence-based competency.

    Workshop Wrap-Up Project

At the end of every Workshop, students work independently, in pairs, or in small groups to complete the Workshop Wrap-Up Project. This project requires students to synthesize the three progressively complex texts within a Workshop by developing and supporting a hypothesis, point of view, or recommendation orally and in writing, using evidence from the text.

Building Capacity of Teachers & Leaders

The Teacher Dashboard helps build capacity of effective teachers. Anytime/anywhere access to the most important implementation and student performance data enables all teachers to use data to drive instruction. State-of-the-art planning tools ensure teachers will spend less time planning and more time building relationships.

A Roadmap to Whole- and Small-Group Instruction

The Next Generation rBook is the cornerstone of READ 180 instruction, providing a clear instructional path for teachers to use in Whole- and Small-Group Instruction. Checkpoints for differentiation help teachers understand exactly when, where, how, and with whom to differentiate instruction.

Available for Stages A, B, and C, the rBook is organized around nine Workshops that provide enough content for approximately one year of instruction per stage. Each rBook Workshop includes multiple readings on the same topic to support a recursive review of academic vocabulary, build student knowledge of content areas and reinforce comprehension skills.
