Special Education

At present, there are six million Special Needs students enrolled in special education programs. Alarmingly, the President’s Commission on Excellence in Special Education (2002) found that approximately 40 percent, or 2.4 million, of these Special Needs students are selected to attend special education programs simply because they have not learned to read. READ 180 is proven effective in accelerating reading achievement for all students—including those in Special Education.

Dr. David Rose, Consulting Developer
Dr. David Rose, Consulting Developer

In 1984, Dr. David Rose, a professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, helped to establish the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST) to expand opportunities for students with disabilities through the innovative development and application of computer technology. In 1998, Scholastic enlisted Dr. Rose and his team to incorporate CAST design in READ 180, equipping the program with a multitude of universal access features.
