Scholastic Reading Counts!® is making everything simple!
Starting in September 2008, we are offering our Student License plan as the new way for districts, schools, and classrooms to obtain Scholastic Reading Counts!
With this new plan, schools, districts and classroom users purchase Scholastic Reading Counts! by student license, which entitles them to full access to the program software and all currently published quizzes for the number of students with a current, valid, and active licenses.
To acquire new quizzes, users purchase an annual Student Access Fee which provides monthly delivery of newly published Scholastic Reading Counts! quizzes for 12 months.
Throughout the fall, Scholastic will transition users who purchase quizzes individually for both Version 3.03 and Enterprise Edition to this new plan.
At the same time, Scholastic will end the distribution of Scholastic Reading Counts! Version 3.0.3 and quizzes on a stand-alone basis on November 31, 2008.
If you are an existing user of Scholastic Reading Counts! Version 3.0.3, in keeping with our End of Life Policy, product support will remain available for purchase until December 1, 2010.

Scholastic Reading Counts! student licenses will replace site licenses and district licenses. As with our previous policy, under the new plan schools retain the perpetual right to use the program and all the quizzes obtained under the previous license agreement.
New Way to Acquire Scholastic Reading Counts! Quizzes
By moving to a license-based user model, Scholastic is poised to meet the needs of busy educators and the demands of a changing industry. For educators, Scholastic Reading Counts! becomes:
- Easy to Manage - With total access to all quizzes, teachers and librarians do not need to search for and purchase individual quizzes, they select the assets they need, when they need them.
- Easy to Budget - With new quizzes delivered monthly for a flat rate, schools can easily predict how much they need to budget for upcoming years.
- Easy to Update - All updated or corrected quizzes are sent to you automatically, with no need to order them or ask for updates.
- Easy to Use - For schools that update to SAM Connect in early 2009, monthly quizzes will be delivered to your server via the Internet - no more discs, no more additional installation.
New Transition and Conversion Plans Available
- If you are a user of Scholastic Reading Counts! Enterprise Edition and have obtained quizzes incrementally and wish to transition to Student Licenses, you can do so with a special, one-time-only transition plan. Please contact us for more information.
- If you are a user of Scholastic Reading Counts! Version 3.0.3 (or a previous version) and wish to convert to Scholastic Reading Counts! Enterprise Edition, you should contact your Inside Sales Representative at 1-800-387-1437 for a special conversion plan which will be available through August 31, 2009.
- If you have obtained Scholastic Reading Counts! Enterprise Edition or Version 3.03 since January 1, 2008, the cost of that acquisition will be applied to the cost of your move to the Student License plan to the extent you make such move before August 31, 2009.
- If you are a user of READ 180, the move to the Student License plan depends on if you use Scholastic Reading Counts! school wide or simply in conjunction with READ 180. Please contact us for more information. Please note that if Scholastic Reading Counts! student licenses are used for non-READ 180 students in your school, your READ 180 students are not calculated in the annual Student Access Fee.
