SCHOLASTIC RIF SWEEPSTAKES OFFICIAL RULES

1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter, simply visit the RIF Contests and Events
page of the Scholastic RIF Web Site at www.scholastic.com/rif and submit your
entry by completing the steps as outlined in the instruction online. Contest
begins Monday September 12, 2005 12:00 a.m. EST and all entries must be received
by Friday December 2, 2005 5:00 p.m. EST. One entry per person. All entries
become the exclusive property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or
returned. Sponsor and its agencies shall not be liable for (a) telephone, electronic,
program, network, Internet, or computer delays, deletions, interruptions or
other failures of any kind; (b) late, lost, damaged, failed, misdirected, incomplete,
garbled, unintelligible, or delayed computer messages; or (c) any human error
that may occur in the processing of any entry, nor are they responsible for
any theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries,
whether caused by the sender or any of the equipment or programming associated
with or utilized in this Sweepstakes. Proof of emailing does not constitute
proof of delivery.
2. ELIGIBILITY. Contest is open only to RIF Coordinators who are currently over
the age of 18. Employees, and members of their families, of Sponsor and its
parent, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and their respective advertising, promotion
and production agencies, are not eligible to enter. Subject to all applicable
federal, state and local laws.
3. WINNERS. One (1) first prize winner will be selected in a random drawing
from among all eligible entries on or about December 15,2005 by Sponsor, whose
decisions on all matters relating to this Sweepstakes shall be final. Winners
will be notified by e-mail. This message will be sent to the winner's e-mail
address provided at the time of entry. Odds of winning will depend on the number
of eligible entries received.
There will be one (1) prize winner who will receive $500 worth of free books,
the selection of books to be determined by Sponsor (approximate retail value
of $500.00)..
No substitution or transfer of prizes is permitted by the winner. Prizes are
non-returnable and cannot be sold or redeemed for cash. Sponsor reserves the
right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. The winner is responsible
for payment of all federal, state or other tax liabilities (including income
taxes) on any prize received.
Winners will have fourteen (14) days from notification to accept the prize by
e-mail or regular mail. Sponsor and its agencies shall not be liable for unsuccessful
efforts to notify a winner. If a winner does not respond to notification of
winner status within fourteen (14) days from notification, or if the winner
does not meet qualification criteria, Sponsor reserves the right to select an
alternate winner. In the event of a dispute regarding the identity of a person
submitting an on-line entry, the entry will be deemed to be submitted by the
Authorized Account Holder of the e-mail address at the time of entry. "Authorized
Account Holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned the e-mail
address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization
(e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning
e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.
4. GENERAL CONDITIONS: If the administration or integrity of the Sweepstakes
is compromised or corrupted at any time, the Sponsor reserves the right to modify,
suspend or cancel the Sweepstakes. Sponsor and its agencies shall not be liable
for any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer related
to or resulting from entering the Sweepstakes. Entrants agree that the decisions
of Sponsor related to this Sweepstakes and all drawings are final. By accepting
a prize, winners also agree to release Sponsor and its parent, subsidiaries,
and affiliates, and their respective advertising, promotion or production agencies
from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries,
damages or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection
with the receipt, ownership or use of the prize or while preparing for, participating
in, and/or traveling to any prize-related activity. Taxes on prizes are the
sole responsibility of the winners. Void where prohibited by law. Winners may
be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility and liability/right of publicity
release, which may require winners to furnish their social security numbers;
failure to do so within fourteen (14) days of receipt of such affidavit and
release will result in disqualification and the selection of an alternate winner.
Except where prohibited, acceptance of a prize shall constitute and signify
a winner's consent to the use of his/her name, address (city and state only),
likeness, voice and/or photograph for any lawful purpose in any media, including
online (including, but not limited to, the Scholastic Web Site), in perpetuity
without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law.
By registering to enter the Sweepstakes, entrants affirm that they have read
and accepted these Official Sweepstakes Rules. Any person attempting to defraud
or in any way tamper with this Sweepstakes will be ineligible for prize.
5. INTERNET. Sponsor and its parent, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and their
respective advertising, promotion or production agencies are not responsible
for technical, hardware, software or telecommunications malfunctions of any
kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete,
inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the sender,
or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this
Sweepstakes which may limit the ability to play or participate, or by any human
error which may occur in the processing of the entries in this Sweepstakes.
If for any reason (including, but not limited to, infection by computer virus,
bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any
other cause beyond the control of Sponsor, which corrupts or affects the administration,
security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Sweepstakes) the online
portion of the Sweepstakes is not capable of being conducted as described in
these rules, Sponsor shall have the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel,
terminate, modify or suspend the Sweepstakes. Sponsor and its agencies shall
not be liable for any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's
computer related to or resulting from entering the Sweepstakes.
6. WINNERS’ LIST. The names of the prizewinner will be available by December
15, 2005. You may request the name of the winners by sending a stamped, self-addressed
