NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 31, 2012) One year after the Indiana State Board of Education(ISBOE) paired Broad Ripple Magnet High School with Scholastic to help turn around a school in need of improvement its state-assigned letter grade has improved from an "F" to a "B".
Identified by the Indiana Department of Education in 2011 as a school in need of additional support, Broad Ripple has seen a rapid turnaround after just one year of work with Scholastic Achievement Partners, the services, consulting, and school improvement arm of Scholastic Education. The ISBOE this morning released its letter grades for the state's high schools, including the score Broad Ripple.
"I think the success came from the willingness of the Scholastic partners to understand where we are, why we are here, look at the data, talk to the parents, talk to communities, get a good feel for the school itself, then make a group decision based on the needs of the kids."
Matt Rimer
Administrator, Broad Ripple Magnet High School
"Principal Mike Akers said Scholastic...helped build processes by which teachers shared strategies and got continuous training."
