Marjorie Lipson

Marjorie Lipson is deeply committed to improving student performance and school effectiveness in reading and writing. She has conducted research on and provided instructional support for students with reading disabilities; comprehension instruction; assessment and teachers' response to assessment mandates; and successful schools.

Her research has been continuously supported by the U.S. government and/or foundations since 1993. Marge is the coauthor, with Karen Wixson, of the successful textbook Assessment and Instruction of Reading and Writing Difficulties: An Interactive Approach (Allyn & Bacon), now in its third edition, and has published articles in many journals, including The Reading Teacher, Language Arts, Reading Research Quarterly, and The Elementary School Journal.

In addition, she is an author on the Houghton Mifflin reading program, which has had significant impact on students and teachers over the past decade. Marge teaches graduate and undergraduate students and codirects the reading clinic at the University of Vermont. She is currently working in six high-poverty schools to help improve literacy instruction.
