Nancy D. Kiger is retired from the University of Central Florida where she taught reading, language arts, and children's literature courses and supervised student teachers. She continues to write and edit for educational publishers. She is coauthor with J. David Cooper of Literacy Assessment: Helping Teachers Plan Instruction, Second Edition.

Karen J. Kindle has more than 18 years of experience teaching in K­4 classrooms. She has been a classroom teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, and reading specialist. Her varied experience includes teaching struggling readers, second language learners, and gifted learners. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Literacy and Reading Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Stephen Krashen is Professor Emeritus of Education at the University of Southern California. His books include Explorations in Language Acquisition and Use and The Power of Reading, now in its second edition.

Kalyani Krishnan, M.A., is a Language and Learning Specialist at ILD. She conducts comprehensive evaluations of children, adolescents and adults with learning and attention-based difficulties. Kalyani specializes in understanding the processing strengths and weaknesses of individuals. She is particularly adept at identifying specific instructional strategies based on individual learning profiles. Her publications and professional presentations include chapters on the assessment and treatment of weaknesses in executive function processes and written language, vocabulary instruction, strategy instruction in the classroom, metacognition, and non-verbal learning disabilities. Previously, she was a reading specialist at Dearborn Academy in Arlington, MA, and an educational specialist at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center in Waltham, MA. Kalyani earned a master's degree in linguistics from Osmania University, Hyderabad India and a second master's degree in learning disabilities from Northwestern University.

Janice V. Kristo, Ph.D., is a professor of Literacy Education at the University of Maine. Coauthor of several texts and many articles and chapters on literacy. She shares the 2000 University of Maine Research and Creative Achievement Award with her coauthor, Rosemary A. Bamford. She has held numerous positions in professional organizations, such as the New England Reading Association, The International Reading Association, and the National Council of Teachers of English.
