Nancy Padak, Ed.D, is a professor of Education at Kent State University in Ohio. Dr. Padak serves as principal investigator and project administrator of the state literacy resource center at Kent State University. Her vast teaching experience includes middle school, high school, college reading and study skills instructor, K-12 administrator, and adult education teacher and administrator. Dr. Padak was recently given the honor of Kent State University Distinguished Professor.

Laurie Pastore has taught in public schools in Brooklyn and Westchester County, working with students from Pre-K to 5th grade. She believes in using research, collaboration, and reflection to plan for best practice in the classroom. This desire to collaborate with teachers led Laurie to join LitLife in 2003. Since then, she has enjoyed working with teachers and administrators to plan curriculum, align teaching to the state standards, and develop innovative solutions to help teachers and student with the growing impact of testing.

Carleen daCruz Payne is a staff development specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia, where she works with beginning teachers. She has been a reading specialist, Reading Recovery teacher, and primary classroom educator, curriculum developer, teacher researcher, adjunct professor, and a language arts consultant to school districts. Carleen, a National Board Certified Teacher, has presented inservices and workshops on a variety of language arts topics at the state, national, and international levels and has received Teacher of the Year awards from the Greater Washington Reading Council and the Virginia State Reading Association. She lives in Clifton, Virginia.

Marilu Peck
  Marilu Peck
Marilu Peck was a special education teacher for children with learning disabilities in a collaborative classroom setting at PS 41 in New York City. In addition to teaching in model classrooms in grades K-4, Marilu coordinated staff development for the collaborative inclusion programs in her school and throughout Region 9 in New York City. She has presented on multisensory, collaborative, and differentiated instruction to teachers, administrators, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, parents, and graduate students. Marilu presently lives in Hong Kong where her husand presently works.

Luisa Perez-Sotelo
  Luisa Perez-Sotelo
Luisa Pérez-Sotelo was born in Lima, Perú. She obtained her bachelor's degree as a high-school teacher in Lima and perfected her English in Barat College, Illinois. She pursued her graduate studies at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas and obtained her Ph.D. in Foreign Language Teaching in 1994. She was Academic Coordinator of the Elementary Spanish Program at the University of Kentucky. Then, she coordinated Spanish courses at the University of Kansas. She is currently Assistant Professor of Spanish at Emporia State University and she also helps at the Teacher's College with teachers' supervision in public schools.

Kathy Perfect has taught for 29 years in Ohio schools and is currently teaching middle school reading and language arts. She is also a Ph.D. candidate in Curriculum & Instruction in Literacy at Kent State University. She has been named four times to Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and has published articles in The Reading Teacher, Ohio Reading Teacher, and Journal of Reading Education. She has presented and conducted workshops in Ohio and other states on a variety of topics.

Linda Pfiffner PhD is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco and is a licensed clinical psychologist. She is also Director of the Hyperactivity, Attention and Learning Problems (HALP) Clinic at the Children’s Center at Langley Porter. She received her B.A. from UCLA and her Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She has over 60 scientific publications focused on school-based interventions for ADHD, family factors and co-occurring conditions in ADHD and family-based behavioral interventions. She developed the Child Life and Attention Skills (CLAS) Program, an integrated multi-component behavioral intervention for ADHD, through funding from National Institute of Mental Health and with funding from the Institute of Education Sciences at the US Department of Education, is adapting the program for delivery by mental health professionals in school settings for children with attention and/or behavioral concerns.   Katherine Phillips
Katherine A. Phillips teaches first grade in Aurora, IL. She received a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Aurora University. To better meet the needs of her diverse learners, she earned a second Master's in Literacy Instruction from Northern Illinois University. She applies her expertise as a certified reading specialist to her literacy instruction each day. Katherine has dedicated over fifteen years to helping first-graders grow as readers and writers while at the same time developing their love of literacy.

Gay Su Pinnell, Editor/Author, is Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University. She has extensive experience in classroom teaching and field-based research, and has developed and implemented comprehensive approaches to literacy education. Her outstanding achievements include the International Reading Association’s Albert J. Harris Award for research in reading, the Ohio Governor’s Award for Education, and the Charles A. Dana Foundation Award. Pinnell is widely published in many education journals, and is the coauthor of many important literacy resources, including Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children and Teaching for Comprehension in Reading, Grades K-2.
