BACKGROUND
Rider 48(a) of the 2005-06 Legislative Appropriations Act passed
by the 79th Texas Legislature in 2005 allocates funds for intensive
reading and math instruction programs. These funds are designated
to serve those schools exhibiting the most difficulty in improving
reading and math achievement for students in grades 4 through
6 in 2005-2007 and Grades 4 through 7 in 2006-2007. Campus eligibility
was determined based on passing rates on the 2005 Grade 5 Reading
and Mathematics TAKS tests. Those campuses with passing rates
lower than the state average may apply to receive Rider 48(a)
funds 6 beginning Spring 2006. Campuses who are awarded grants
under this program will be able to select from the TEA approved
provider list that was determined through a competitive process.
The application for Cycle 1 of the funds will be
open on eGrants beginning April 3, 2006 and applications are due
no later than May 15, 2006. Applicants will need to have TEA-SE
access in order to complete the application. Please visit the
