Routines for Language Development

Academic Language, Writing, Speaking & Listening

Academic language learners need clear instruction in developing highly portable vocabulary and language functions for use in speaking, writing, and other social contexts. In the Language & Writing Portfolio, an interactive work space, students engage in scaffolded vocabulary, language, speaking and listening, and writing activities that help them develop and apply academic English with peers and with their teachers.

The Course I Language & Writing Portfolio and guided routines provide students daily, accountable opportunities to develop academic vocabularies and language functions. Students prepare for classroom discussions and speeches and develop academic writing skills such as formal summary, justification essays, and argument research papers.
