Vashti may not be able to draw, but she can at least make a dot. When she sees the dot framed above her art teacher's desk she decides that she can make a better dot. Soon Vashti is making big dots and small dots, red dots, blue dots and purple dots. At the school art show everyone admires her dot paintings and she realizes that art is about more than being able to draw. Narrated by Thora Birch with music by Jerry Dale McFadden. A co-production of Weston Woods Studios and FableVision, Inc.
Reviews:
Video Librarian: “This winsomely animated adaptation… is an ode to self-expression.”
Booklist: “…a winning adaptation…. Thora Birch’s sympathetic, straightforward narration never competes with the dot drawings for dominance, and Jerry Dale McFadden’s background music adds bounce.” Starred review.
School Library Journal: “…heart-warming…emphasizes self-esteem, art concepts, and education. It also demonstrates the importance of identity in the signing of the pictures…. Technical quality and sound are excellent…. Teachers and librarians will find this book useful for both art and self-esteem lessons and to encourage students in all their endeavors.” Video of the Week
Catholic Library World: "This film, along with its valuable teaching guide, is an excellent springboard for classroom discussions, not only about art, but also self-esteem and individuality."
