Teacher of the Year
In response to the Scholastic/CCSSO Teacher Voices Survey findings, Scholastic is building upon its 80-year commitment to learning with the Scholastic Teach Today & Tomorrow campaign, designed to move the recruitment and retention dialogue toward realistic solutions.

The initiative gives a voice to America's most honored teachers, the Teachers of the Year — their experiences can help recruit, retain and support our nation's outstanding educators who shape the country's future, one child at a time.

The three key components of this initiative are detailed here.

The Scholastic/CCSSO Teacher Voices survey focuses on the issues of recruiting and retaining teachers. The survey was commissioned by Scholastic Inc. and was conducted by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). National Teachers of the Year from the past 50 years along with State Teachers of the Year from the past 10 years were surveyed. The survey report will be shared with political, business, and education leaders as well as the general public through media outreach, special mailings, education forums and other means.

Scholastic partners with educational institutions and associations to support and create programs that promote excellence in the teaching profession and leadership development among educators. That is why the company is proud to be the corporate sponsor of the National Teacher of the Year Program.

The National Teacher of the Year Program began in 1952 and continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching. The National Teacher of the Year is chosen from among the State Teachers of the Year by a national selection committee representing the major national education organizations. Each spring, the National Teacher of the Year is introduced to the American people at a White House ceremony. Scholastic Inc. is the proud sponsor of this award, which is administered by the Council of Chief State School Officers.

The Scholastic Teacher Fellows program is an extension of Scholastic's sponsorship of the National Teacher of the Year Program and identifies, recognizes and works with educators who represent excellent teaching in elementary and secondary education. Its mission is in line with the company's goal of supporting efforts that promote leadership development among educators. Scholastic Teacher Fellows are introduced to the publishing world through an intensive "internship" that takes place each summer at Scholastic Inc. headquarters in New York City. In addition, Teacher Fellows have the opportunity to address pertinent teaching issues as they contribute to Scholastic publications and serve on corporate panels and advisory boards (Only current and former National and State Teachers of the Year are eligible to participate in this program.)
