Scholastic Read For 2007 is a great opportunity for you to get involved with your child's school and to get kids excited about reading!

How to prepare with your kids Scholastic Read For 2007

  • Encourage children to select the book(s) of their choice to read on Read For 2007 day.

  • Help children prepare for the big reading day by reading to or with them each and every day. It is never too late (or too early) to pick up a book and read.

  • Enjoy reading along with kids on Scholastic Read For 2007 day. Parents are the best reading role models!

  • Choose books to read together. Ask your librarian for suggestions, or check out our reading list to get you started.

How parents can help plan a classroom or library event

Many parents want to help out but aren't sure how. Here are some ways to help a teacher or librarian plan for their Read For 2007 event :

  • Ask your child's teacher how you can help.

  • Provide food snacks and drinks.

  • Help create decorations and favors.

  • Help decorate the classroom.

  • Invite guest readers.

  • Raise money to purchase books for the class to read on the day of the event.

Ways to participate inside and outside the classroom or library.

Here are some ways to participate in the classroom:

  • Ask your child's teacher how you can help.

  • Read aloud to the class, one-on-one with your child, with a small group, or silently with the rest of the class.

  • Bring in your favorite childhood book to share and discuss.

  • Share with students why reading is important in your job and everyday life.
Here are some ways to participate from home or work:
  • Parents can join their child on December 8th by picking up a book and reading.

  • Read the same book as your child and discuss it later that night at the dinner table.

  • Scholastic Read For 2007 can be a special opportunity for children to stay up past their bedtime to read together or to have a family reading moment after dinner.

  • Call or e-mail your child on Scholastic Read For 2007 day to wish them happy reading and to talk about what they'll be reading.

  • Share your favorite childhood books with your kids.

  • Take time together every day to read together for 20 minutes a day, or more. Reading is something that can be celebrated on any day, at any time!
