chased by wild animals.

I was with my aunt and her daughter at the hair salon and the

I had just returned from my friend's house when it happened. My
family and I went outside. My other friend called and they had power and a
pool, so we went to their house to get in their pool. On the way home the power came back on.

During the blackout of 2003 I was pretty lucky because I didn't
lose any power. My mom, little sister, and I were at home when it
happened. My sister and my dad were at work and they had to work in the
dark. I'm happy that our power didn't go out.
Lara G., 10, New Jersey
I was at the Washington Township pool when we heard about the
blackout. That day my mom forgot her key, but we had the garage opener. But
when we got home the garage wouldn't open. So we went to my cousin's house because they had electricity. So we took a bath there and when the
electricity came back we went back home.
Ryan K., 10, New Jersey
My dad just got home from work and my fish tank started making
weird noises, then the TV went off and so did the air conditioner. My dad tried to fix it but it didn't work. Then the TV came on and we found out about the blackout.

It was the day before my vacation when the black out happend. We
went to our aunt's house and they were out of power, too. So we stayed
there and there was some food to cook at the stove. We were bored so we
were folding oragami.

When the power went out my dad was having trouble with the subway. My dad got home at 1 a.m. and that's my story.
Brenden T., 9, New Jersey
When the blackout struck I was on the phone talking to my
friend Caitlin. We were on the phone for about 30 minutes when the lights
started to flicker. She said, "Whoa," because they were flickering at her
house too. She said, "I think we're doing it," and that's when my dad called and
told me it's not just our state that has the blackout.
Brooke H., age 11, Michigan
My mom and I lit a candle. We sat on the couch and talked.
Micaela S., age 9, Ohio
I was at home and got really scared because I was in my room alone. I had a hard time getting to my mom who was in the kitchen looking for a flashlight. Our house is really dark during the day, so when the lights went out I couldn't see.

During the blackout, my friends were having a good-bye party for me. So while the party was going on the lights went out. We didn't know what to do, but my friend Suzie showed us how to play kick the can, so we went outside and played
kick the can in the cornfields.
