Maine Re-elects Leaders
Incumbents rule the day in Northern state

Maine voters returned their incumbents to office on Election Day by wide margins. Voters came to the polls to choose their Governor, Senator, and two members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The candidates running for Governor were incumbent John Baldacci, a Democrat, and Chandler Woodcock, a Republican. Governor Baldacci won re-election and is once again the stateÕs top leader.
In the Senate race, incumbent Olympia Snowe defeated challenger Jean Hay Bright. Snowe, a Republican, took the race with a reported 73 percent of the vote. She will be serving her third term as a U.S. Senator.
In the District 1 House race, incumbent Tom Allen defeated his Republican challenger Darlene Curley with 61 percent of the vote. In District 2, Democrat Mike Michaud (incumbent) defeated Republican challenger Scott D'Amboise with 71 percent of the vote.
