Democratic presidential candidate, Senator Barack Obama, stresses a point as he speaks between former Senator Sam Nunn (left) and Sen. Evan Bayh during a panel discussion on national security at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, July 16, 2008.Barack Obama
Barack Obama believes that the United States is still unprepared for a terrorist attack. He supports strengthening homeland security to protect our country against future terrorist attacks on American soil.
Knowing that our nation’s chemical plants are prime targets for terrorists, Obama has introduced legislation that would improve security at these sites. Under his plan, plants would be required to follow a number of federal regulations, including safety training and the use of less-toxic chemicals. He is also calling on tougher rules governing our nation’s nuclear power plants.
Aware that America’s water supply too could be contaminated by terrorists, Obama has introduced legislation that would pump $37.5 million over five years into improving the security of U.S. drinking water systems.
