George W. Bush, Republican
Age: 57
State: Texas
Current Job: President of the United States
Family: wife, Laura; twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara

Strengths: Many people commend Bush for showing strong leadership after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He created the Department of Homeland Security to help protect the nation against threats. Bush's approval rating increased after September 11, as well as after the U.S.-led war against Iraq. Bush also created the No Child Left Behind Act, which supports early learning, helps failing schools, measures students' performance, provides information to parents, and guarantees more resources for schools.

Weaknesses: More than 2 million jobs have been lost during Bush's presidency. The popular war President is now being criticized for the continued unrest in Iraq. The President went to war with Iraq because, he said, the country's leader, Saddam Hussein, was developing weapons of mass destruction. A year has passed and no WMD's have been found. Many people also criticize Bush for the continuing loss of American soldiers in Iraq, even after he declared the end of major conflict in May 2003.

Best Issues: National security is one of Bush's best issues. He was a strong leader after September 11 and took steps to help prevent future attacks. He also cut taxes, which was popular with business owners, both big and small.
