When the Republican State Committee of New York asked Carmen Gomez-Goldberg to be a delegate to this year's Republican National Convention, she eagerly accepted. She has been an active worker in state campaigns for the Republican Party, and she is thrilled to have the opportunity to help nominate George W. Bush for re-election.
"I'm excited to share the enthusiasm of the Republican Party at the convention," Gomez-Goldberg said. "It's a great honor to have this experience."
For almost 200 years, major political parties have nominated their candidates at conventions. At this year's Republican National Convention, Gomez-Goldberg will deliver the vote of her congressional district to officially nominate President Bush.
This will be Gomez-Goldberg's first time to serve as a delegate at a national convention. Naturally, she's excited. "I can't wait to meet all the delegates from around the country, listen to the speakers, and see George W. Bush give his acceptance speech," she said. She expects convention week to be very busy with nonstop action.
She also believes that there's no better city to host this action than New York City. According to Gomez-Goldberg, the convention will unify the city after the tragic events of September 11, and remind the world of President Bush's steady leadership after the attacks. "New York is a very diverse place that welcomes everyone," she said. "So why not?"
When she's not serving as a delegate, Gomez-Goldberg is the executive vice president of Avet Coach Corps, a company that provides transportation for the disabled and others with special needs. As an ordinary voter in addition to a delegate, she hopes the convention will make a positive impact on people.
"The convention should confirm to the people that President Bush is a strong and skillful leader with a great vision for America," she said.
Check back after the convention to find out more about Gomez-Goldberg and her experiences at the Republican National Convention. The convention will be held in New York from August 30 to September 2.
